Providing therapy for Complex Trauma and PTSD in Oregon and Washington
Sometimes life can feel like things are going just fine, but something is just...off. We can feel anxious, but not know why. We can feel sad, depressed, even lonely, but feel like there isn't any good reason for it. Maybe you're starting to feel more isolated, or detached; you feel disconnected from your partner, children, and friends. Your feelings are everywhere and you feel in less control every day.
Talking to someone can help. Together we will work to help you develop an awareness of who you are, explore your needs, and develop the skills to put it all together.
Family Systems & Attachment
Families are difficult, I know. You may feel like you have to sacrifice your mental, and emotional health to be around them. That each time you set a boundary it is disregarded, and you either explode, or shut down completely. You're frustrated at this cycle, and want it to stop.
Family systems can be challenging to navigate, it might feel impossible to set a boundary and still have a relationship with them. It may be overwhelming to find your voice when around them.
Exploring your family system, understanding the role you've been placed in, and learning your attachment style can help you to set healthy boundaries, improve communication, and change the relationships in your life.
PTSD & CPTSD
Trauma can impact us in ways that can be difficult to understand. You can feel tired, withdrawn, or overwhelmed. You can have thoughts, and memories that surprise you, that scare you, and consume your days, impacting your sleeping, eating, and overall mood. You can feel out of control with seemingly no way out.
I am devoted to helping my clients find their inner strength and resilience, and to learn the skills to cope with life’s difficulties.
I am able to provide a safe space for healing and growth, where my clients can explore their stories and reclaim their power.
Exploring our sexuality, sexual preferences, and various levels of kink should be a rich and engaging experience. All too often sex is treated as taboo (even though we are constantly surrounded by it), and we are rarely taught how to explore and express our sexuality in healthy and safe ways.
I work with clients to remove the shame that those who engage in alternative lifestyles may encounter.
Everyone has the right to express their sexuality in a safe and consensual way.
Relationships are vital in healing our trauma and discomfort. Together we will build trust, and safety.
My belief is that it’s important for us to learn who we are, and why we do the things that we do. All too often we can feel alone, and isolated in our thoughts and feelings, attempting to navigate our lives feeling as if we are the only one's struggling.
I draw from a blend of therapeutic approaches, including somatic, interpersonal, cognitive behavioral, and mindfulness.
My name is Wendy Riggs (she/her pronouns), and I'm a licensed mental health therapist (lpc, lmhc) practicing in Oregon and Washington. I have worked in a variety of settings tending to the care and needs of adults in which I provide trauma-informed supports that allow my client’s to feel seen, heard, and understood. I enjoy working with people as they navigate issues that surround: trauma, depression, anxiety, family systems, and attachment in relationships.
You are not alone, and you are worth the time, care, and commitment that comes with therapy. Surrounded in a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment I work to help each person feel like they are not alone. I strive to create a judgement-free space, free from shame and stigma, so that each person can feel supported and empowered. I look forward to helping you on your journey to a healthier and more fulfilling life.
